5010 INFRARED DETECTION RESPONSE

  5011 Sensor Head - Description

The Type 5011 Sensor is a sealed unit with a high degree of dust and water integrity.
An octal detector sensing module is located within the aluminium alloy housing which is mounted by means of an adjustable bracket permitting alignment in both vertical and horizontal planes.
In addition to the electronic infrared detection circuitry the unit contains a pressure switch. This device, together with various other pneumatic components and pipe fittings, is related to the associated air supply. The purpose of the Air Supply is two fold.
Firstly, the air is routed to an “Air Knife” located on the face of the unit. This device maintains a continuous stream of air across the sensor window in order to prevent settlement of dust in dirty environments.
Secondly, some of the air is routed into the Sensor Head such as to maintain a positive pressure inside the enclosure. This permits the equipment to be used in a Hazardous Area. This internal pressure is regulated by two “bleed valves”. A coupling is provided for attachment of a pressure gauge during commissioning and maintenance (see photo - top left). During normal sevice operation the unit's integral pressure switch monitors the purge air and signals a loss of pressure as an Air Fault to the controller.
The infra-red sensor head is operated in conjunction with a 5020 controller, and the housing is fitted with internal screw terminals for connection to the controller cable.
The sensing module fits to the housing by means of a connector and thus may be readily de-mounted (upon removal of the housing cover) without disturbance to cable connections.

Also see chart to the left   Supply On - Green LED - 1 off
The "detection response" chart indicates the correlation between the temperature and size of ‘hot spot’ anomalies for a typical installation to produce one or more detector channel activations at various trigger level settings. Exact response is dependant on the emissivity factor of the monitored material, sensor orientation and target speed.
